Cataphiles

On the surface: the hurried footsteps of the inhabitants of  Paris. Under the city: the catacombs. This network of former quarries has a length of over 300 km and lies 25 meters below the sidewalks of Paris.

The French word cataphiles („catacomb lovers“) refers to a subculture scene that illegally explores or uses the unsecured tunnels. Officers from the Paris police are specifically assigned to operate underground.

Cataphiles use the underground facilities for illegal concerts and parties.
